Gwarzo lies in the west of Kano State in northern Nigeria, some distance from the city of Kano, and serves as the headquarters of the local government area of the same name. The landscape around it is flat Sahelian savanna, with farmland and scattered settlements linked by long roads across open country.
On the map, the town forms a compact nucleus. Older quarters appear as a dense weave of small, irregular lanes, while newer areas at the edges show wider, straighter streets. Main roads leave the centre in several directions, stretching out across the plain toward neighbouring towns and villages.
