Haji Shah is a town in northern Punjab, Pakistan, in flat farming country not far from the Indus. From above, it is a close cluster of streets and houses with lanes branching out between fields. The overall shape comes less from planning than from the roads that meet here and the plots of farmland around it.
This part of Punjab is a lowland plain with the hills of the north-west on the horizon. Settlements here tend to be compact, with the built area packed tightly and farmland pressing right up to the last houses.
