Heihe Map Poster
Heihe sits on the southern bank of the Amur River in northern Heilongjiang, on the border between China and Russia. The river runs along the northern side of the city, and on the opposite bank lies Blagoveshchensk, close enough that the two cities are often described as looking at each other across the water. Few borders anywhere run between two cities this close together.
The street plan is mostly regular, with broad avenues parallel to the river and cross streets running inland. A riverside promenade traces the southern bank. The cross-border road bridge, which opened to traffic in 2022, created the first fixed road link between the two cities, which had previously relied on ferries and, in winter, on crossings over the frozen river.
A Heihe map poster shows a city defined by its border river. The orderly grid ends at the Amur, the wide water stretches across the frame, and on the far shore the edge of another country's city begins. It is an unusual composition with a story built into it.

The road bridge to Blagoveshchensk crosses the Amur outside the centre. It is a single span linking China and Russia over the river.
