Hendījān is a town in Iran's Khuzestan Province, near the northern shore of the Persian Gulf. The land here is very flat and low, and a river winds through it toward the sea, passing close to the town before it reaches the coast. Fishing and trade have long connected the town to the Gulf.
From above, Hendījān appears as a compact grid of streets on the riverbank, surrounded by flat land that turns into mudflats and tidal channels toward the coast. The river's meanders are the most noticeable natural feature. They bend in wide loops across a landscape with little else to interrupt it.
