Huesca Map Poster & Print
Huesca is the capital of its province in northern Aragon. It stands on the plain at the foot of the Pyrenees, near the Isuela river. On a map the old town is easy to find. It is a roughly circular knot of streets on a small rise, and its outline follows the line of the former walls. Around it, wider nineteenth- and twentieth-century streets spread across flatter ground.
The city goes back to the Roman town of Osca and has kept an important role in Aragon's history. The Gothic cathedral stands at the high point of the old town. Nearby, the former royal palace holds a chamber tied to the legend of the Bell of Huesca. To the south and east, Parque Miguel Servet adds a large green space to the grid.
A Huesca map poster works because the city has a clear shape. The compact medieval circle sits at the centre, ring roads and avenues surround it, and the river runs along one side. In black and white, the contrast between the tight old lanes and the more open modern blocks becomes the main subject. The shape is precise but not rigid.
