Hyde Map Poster & Print
Hyde lies on the eastern side of Greater Manchester, in the borough of Tameside, where the plain begins to rise towards the Pennines. The map shows a dense core of Victorian terraced streets, laid out in tight parallel rows that once housed workers from the cotton mills, surrounded by later estates that climb the higher ground to the south and east.
Water shapes the western edge. The River Tame loops along the boundary with its wooded banks, and the Peak Forest Canal runs close beside it, a thinner and straighter line built to carry limestone and goods through the valley. Where the two run in parallel, the map gains a pair of lines that trace the town's industrial origins.
To the south-east rises Werneth Low, a hill now kept as a country park, with a war memorial at the top and wide views over the city region. The M67 motorway skirts the north of the town on its short run towards the hills. A Hyde map poster brings together the terraces, the river and that open hilltop in one composition.
