Icheon lies in the south-east of Gyeonggi Province, where the Seoul metropolitan area gives way to low hills and farmland. On a map, the compact city centre sits beside a stream, with apartment blocks and a few main avenues surrounded by a wide landscape of fields, villages and wooded slopes.
