Igaci is in the agreste of Alagoas, the transition zone in north-eastern Brazil between the humid coast and the drier sertão. On a map, the town is a small, compact grid of streets on gently rolling ground. Beyond the last blocks, the land breaks into small farms and pasture, crossed by unpaved roads that curve around low hills.
Igaci is close to Arapiraca, one of the main towns of the Alagoas interior, and the roads linking them form the strongest lines around the settlement. Elsewhere, the rural paths spread in an irregular web that follows property lines and the lie of the land, not a planned layout.
