Islāmpur is a town in Uttar Dinajpur district in the north of West Bengal, close to the border with Bihar. It lies on the national highway that links the plains of Bengal and Bihar with Siliguri and the northeast, and much of its growth has followed that road. On the map, a dense core of streets sits along the highway, with lanes branching out on either side.
The land here is flat and fertile, crossed by rivers and streams, and fields come right up to the edges of the town.
