Jackson is one of the largest townships by area in New Jersey. It sits in Ocean County, on the northern edge of the Pine Barrens. From above, it reads as a patchwork more than a town: winding suburban streets and cul-de-sacs, long rural roads, and large stretches of forest in between. Small lakes and streams add to the pattern.
Its best-known landmark is Six Flags Great Adventure, which draws visitors from across the region. Otherwise, Jackson is mostly a residential community with several distinct neighbourhoods rather than a single downtown. That makes its map unusually varied.
