Jardim Botânico Map Poster & Print
Jardim Botânico is an administrative region of Brazil's Federal District, east of Lago Sul on the outskirts of Brasília. It is named after the Brasília Botanical Garden, whose reserve of native cerrado vegetation forms a large, unbroken green area on the map. The residential districts have grown up around it.
Much of the settled area is made up of gated condominiums, each with its own internal loop of streets, arranged along a few main roads. From above they look like separate cells, each with its own layout. The pattern is very different from Brasília's famous monumental axis and superblocks.
The region sits on the high plateau of central Brazil, where open savanna, gallery forests along the streams and protected areas surround the built-up land. Enclosed neighbourhoods appear as separate groups of streets, each with its own loops and cul-de-sacs, set along the main roads. The effect is almost like a mosaic.
Cerrado corridors
Streams lined with gallery forest run between the settlements and give the landscape a natural structure. In black and white they appear as soft, open bands.
