Jesus Maria is a central district of Lima, just south-west of the historic centre. Its map is one of the most orderly in the city. Long, straight avenues, including Avenida Brasil and Avenida Salaverry, run at an angle across a regular grid of residential blocks, with squares and small parks placed at even intervals.
At its heart lies the Campo de Marte, a large park used for parades, sport and public events, which forms a wide open rectangle on the map. Nearby, the Residencial San Felipe, a mid-twentieth-century housing complex of towers and low blocks set in green space, adds a different, modernist pattern to the district.
The district is mostly residential, with offices, schools, clinics and public institutions along its main avenues. It has no coastline of its own, though the Pacific cliffs are a short distance to the west.
