Jorat Map Poster & Print
Jorat is a settlement administered by Sumqayit, on the northern side of the Absheron Peninsula in Azerbaijan. It lies close to the Caspian shoreline, and on a map the coast forms a long, clean boundary, with the sea filling one side of the sheet and the land shaped by roads and low-rise housing on the other.
The Absheron landscape is flat and dry, and settlements here tend to spread out in rectilinear plots and walled courtyards rather than dense urban blocks. Jorat follows that pattern, its streets forming a fairly regular network that fades gradually into open ground and neighbouring communities. The larger industrial city of Sumqayit lies nearby along the same coast.
