Jukui lies in the north-eastern part of Chongqing municipality, an area of parallel ridges and narrow valleys between the Sichuan Basin and the mountains to the east. Towns here grow where valleys widen or roads meet. On the map, Jukui appears as a compact knot of streets, from which a small number of roads lead out along the terrain.
The land around the town is rural and heavily farmed. Terraces, fields and scattered houses cover the lower slopes, and forest remains on the steeper ridges. Winding country roads link neighbouring villages and market towns, following the valleys and doubling back where the ground rises.
