Kartārpur is a town in Jalandhar district in Indian Punjab, on the main road that links Jalandhar with Amritsar. Guru Arjan Dev, the fifth Sikh Guru, founded it in the late sixteenth century, and the older quarter still grows outward from its religious centre. It is distinct from Kartarpur in Pakistan, which is associated with Guru Nanak.
On a map, the old town is a dense cluster of narrow, winding lanes, while newer areas follow straighter lines along the highway and the railway. Farmland surrounds the town on the flat Doaba plain, crossed by rural roads and irrigation channels. The contrast between the tightly packed core and the open fields gives the map clear edges.
