Khosrowshahr lies in East Azerbaijan province, a short drive southwest of Tabriz, on the gently sloping ground between the Sahand massif and the lowlands that lead toward Lake Urmia. On a map the town forms a compact block of streets surrounded by fields and orchards, with main roads connecting it to Tabriz and to neighbouring settlements.
The land around the town is largely given over to orchards and farming, divided into long, narrow plots watered by channels descending from the higher ground. From above, these produce a fine linear pattern that contrasts with the denser, more irregular streets of the older parts of town and the more regular blocks of newer neighbourhoods.
