Kopargo lies in the Donga department of north-western Benin, in rolling country of farmland and wooded savanna not far from the border with Togo. On a map, the town appears as a modest cluster of streets and compounds gathered around the roads that pass through it, with open land stretching out on every side.
The town serves as a local centre for the surrounding villages, with a market and administrative functions for its commune. The landscape around it is shaped by farming, with fields, small tracks and patches of trees forming an irregular, patchwork texture typical of this part of West Africa.
