Kurye Map Poster & Print
Kurye, more commonly spelled Gurye, is a county town in Jeollanam-do in the south-west of South Korea. It lies in a basin between the Seomjin River and the southern slopes of Jirisan, the mountain massif that forms the core of Korea's first national park. On a map, the town is a compact cluster on the flat valley floor, closely framed by high ground.
The area is known for Hwaeomsa, one of Korea's major Buddhist temples, in a valley on the mountain's flanks. It is also known for its spring festival of sansuyu, or cornelian cherry, whose yellow blossom covers the villages nearby. The Seomjin River runs along the southern side of the valley, and farmland fills the flat ground between the town and the hills.
