Kushtagi lies in Koppal district in northern Karnataka, on the open Deccan plateau, where the land is broad, dry and gently rolling. The town is the headquarters of a taluk of the same name. From above, it forms a compact centre of older streets, with newer neighbourhoods stretching along the main roads that pass through it.
Highways and district roads meet at Kushtagi, and their long lines give a Kushtagi map poster a clear structure as they cross the frame in confident strokes. Between them, the space fills with quiet detail: farmland divided into large plots, small tanks that store rain, and the rocky outcrops typical of the region.
