La Rinconada lies on the flat plain of the Guadalquivir just north of Seville. The municipality has two main settlements: the original village of La Rinconada and the larger San José de la Rinconada, which grew along the railway and main road. On a map, they appear as two separate clusters of streets surrounded by a geometric pattern of fields.
The land here has long been farmed, and irrigation has turned the plain into productive agricultural country. The Guadalquivir and its tributaries wind across the area, and the old course of the river shows in curving field boundaries. The municipality's closeness to Seville has made it a place where people live and commute into the city.
