Lachi is a town in Kohat District in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, in the rugged country between the Kohat valley and the districts further south. The landscape is dry and hilly, with ridges and seasonal stream beds shaping where people can build and where roads can go. The town is the administrative centre of its tehsil.
On a map, Lachi follows its main road. Shops and houses cluster along the route and then spread onto the flatter ground around it, while smaller lanes branch into the neighbourhoods. The streets are irregular and closely packed near the centre, and outside the town the network thins quickly into tracks crossing open, uneven land.
