Laisu is a town in the western part of Chongqing municipality, in the rolling hill country that stretches across the Sichuan Basin. The land here is rarely flat. Low ridges, small valleys and stepped fields give the terrain a wrinkled texture, and settlements tend to follow the gentler ground along streams and roads.
From above, the town's streets gather where valleys meet and routes cross, then thin out into scattered villages and farm tracks. Small reservoirs and ponds, common in this farmed landscape, appear as irregular patches of water among the fields. Newer roads cut straighter lines through the older, more organic network.
