Lākheri is in Bundi district in south-eastern Rajasthan, in hilly country marked by low ridges and dry plains. On the map, a small, dense town core sits among these rises. Roads and a railway line run through the area in long, straight lines that contrast with the irregular lanes of the older settlement.
The town is known for its cement industry. Lākheri is widely cited as the site of one of India's early cement works, founded in the early twentieth century and still associated with the town today. Industrial sites like this leave a clear mark on a map: large plots, service roads and rail connections next to the residential streets.
