Irrigation grid
Straight roads and channels divide the oasis into neat rectangles of fields and orchards. The regular pattern gives the map a quiet, measured texture.

Langgar Map Poster & Print
Langgar lies in the south of Xinjiang, in the belt of oases between the Kunlun Mountains and the Taklamakan Desert. Here, settlement depends on water that flows down from the mountains, and a map shows that clearly: a green, closely worked patch of land with open, empty ground beyond it.
Within the oasis, roads and irrigation channels run in long straight lines, often lined with trees, and divide the land into regular fields and orchards. Villages and the town centre sit along these lines. At the edges, the pattern stops quite suddenly where water no longer reaches.
A Langgar map poster works because of that contrast. Fine, orderly detail fills part of the sheet, and the rest is almost blank. It is a map that explains itself, showing how water shapes where people live.

Desert edge
Where irrigation ends, the detail stops and open ground takes over. The sharp line between the two is the most striking feature of the design.
Mountain-fed water
The oasis depends on water flowing north from the Kunlun range. Channels and watercourses entering from the south show where that water comes from.
