Lanús Map Poster
Lanús lies directly south of the city of Buenos Aires, separated from it by the Riachuelo, the narrow industrial river that marks the capital's southern edge. The map is almost entirely grid: small, regular blocks of houses, workshops and corner shops, repeated block after block. The Roca railway line runs through the middle, dividing the city into eastern and western halves.
The city is named after Anacarsis Lanús, the merchant and landowner whose land was subdivided in the late nineteenth century. It grew as an industrial suburb, and much of its identity today comes from Club Atlético Lanús, the football club whose stadium stands among the streets of the eastern side.
