Las Matas de Farfán is a municipality in the San Juan province of the Dominican Republic, in the western part of the San Juan valley and not far from the border with Haiti. The town is laid out in a fairly regular pattern of blocks, and on a map its streets form a clear, compact grid set among the cultivated land of the valley floor.
The valley is one of the country's main agricultural areas, and fields surround the town on most sides. Roads lead east toward San Juan de la Maguana and west toward Elías Piña and the frontier, crossing the landscape in long straight or gently curving lines.
