Lauri is a town in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh, in the Bundelkhand region near the border with Uttar Pradesh. From above, it appears as a compact cluster of streets and houses, with a few roads leading out to neighbouring villages and towns. Fields surround it, crossed by tracks and small watercourses.
The town serves as a local centre for trade and services for a largely agricultural area. Bundelkhand is a region of dry plains and low rocky hills, where farming depends heavily on the monsoon and on reservoirs and tanks.
