Lingolsheim is a commune just south-west of Strasbourg, part of the Eurométropole in Alsace. On a map it is hard to say where the city ends and the town begins. Residential streets continue directly from Strasbourg's outer districts, and a tram line connects Lingolsheim with the centre. Toward the south and west, the built-up area opens onto water and green space.
The streets are mostly suburban. Older lanes follow the lines of the original village, and newer housing forms curving closes and cul-de-sacs. Rail lines and main roads cut through the area as strong, straight bands. Lakes formed in old gravel workings lie at the edge of the commune, and the green corridor of the Bruche sits nearby. These give the map several smooth, open shapes.
