Lumamē is a town in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, in the East Gojjam zone, standing on the high plateau of the region. It serves as a local administrative and market centre, and its map is typical of Ethiopian highland towns. A main road runs through it, with blocks of houses and compounds arranged on either side and smaller lanes leading off into the surrounding fields.
The plateau here is intensively farmed, with teff, wheat and other crops covering the gently rolling land. From above, that farmland appears as broad open space crossed by tracks and seasonal streams, while the town forms a clear, compact cluster. To the south the land eventually drops into the deep gorge of the Blue Nile, one of the great canyons of the region.
