Macaparana is a municipality in the north of Pernambuco in northeastern Brazil, close to the border with Paraíba. The town sits in a transition zone where the humid coastal forest belt gives way to the drier interior, and the surrounding landscape is one of hills, valleys and cultivated fields.
From above, the urban area is compact. A central grid of streets and a main square form the core, with houses spreading along roads that follow the shape of the land. At the edges, the pattern loosens as streets climb slopes or bend around low ground before ending in rural paths.
