Madarounfa lies in the Maradi region of southern Niger, a short distance from the border with Nigeria. Its main natural feature is Lake Madarounfa, a body of water near the town that swells in the rainy season and shrinks in the dry months. On the map, the lake is a soft, rounded shape next to the settlement.
The town itself is a loose pattern of lanes and family compounds, with no regular grid. It spreads out gradually into fields and paths, and roads connect it north to Maradi and south towards the border. From above, the water, the low-density streets and the open farmland make a gentle, quiet composition.
