Mailsi is a town in Vehari District in southern Punjab, set on the wide, level plain north of the Sutlej River. From above, the town is a compact cluster of streets. Around it lies a very regular landscape of fields, canals and village tracks, with the lines of irrigation stretching toward the horizon in every direction.
The surrounding area depends on canal irrigation, and the waterways are the landscape's strongest lines. The best-known structure is the Mailsi Siphon, where a link canal passes under the Sutlej riverbed. The town itself has a busier core of market streets that loosens toward the edges into residential lanes and then open farmland.
