The eastern cape
Punta de Maisí is the easternmost point of Cuba. The coast turns sharply here, which gives the map a clear corner where the north and south shores of the island meet.

Maisí Map Poster & Print
Maisí sits at the far eastern end of Cuba, where the island narrows to a blunt point and meets open water on three sides. From above, the land ends suddenly at the coast, with no long beaches or deep bays. Settlements are spread across the municipality rather than packed into one centre, so the map reads as scattered clusters joined by a few roads instead of a dense urban grid.
The land's most distinctive feature is its series of stepped marine terraces. These are old shorelines lifted out of the sea over long periods, and they rise inland in broad bands. On a map they appear as parallel contours that follow the coast, with roads sometimes running along one level before switching back up to the next. Past the cape lies the Windward Passage, the strait between Cuba and Hispaniola.
A Maisí map poster shows a place defined by where it sits and what the ground looks like, not by monuments or avenues. Its lines are sparse: the coastline, a handful of routes through the countryside, and small villages where those routes meet. There is plenty of empty space in the composition, which suits a minimalist black-and-white print and brings out the curve of the cape and the terraced land.

Stepped coastal terraces
Uplifted marine terraces rise inland from the sea in broad steps. On a map they show up as bands running parallel to the coast, and the few roads follow their levels as they climb.
Scattered settlements
Maisí has no single dense core. Its population lives in small villages across the municipality, so the print shows several modest clusters of streets linked by thin rural roads.

Maisíを選ぶ理由
想いが詰まった地図
People who hang this map often have family ties to eastern Cuba, or they are drawn to the idea of a country's farthest edge. It also works as a quiet print, with lots of open space and a shoreline that is easy to recognise from across a room.
You can change the title, the subtitle and the coordinates line, for example to add a family name, a date or the point where the island ends. Pick one of five styles: Classic black & white, Noir, Paper, Blueprint or Sand. Then download HD files for $9, or order a printed poster, with a wooden frame if you want one.
