Makinsk Map Poster & Print
Makinsk is a town in Aqmola Region in northern Kazakhstan, between the capital, Astana, and Kokshetau. It grew around the railway that crosses this part of the steppe, and on the map the tracks are still a strong line beside the town. The streets form a largely regular grid, the orderly plan typical of settlements built or expanded in the Soviet period.
Blocks of low houses with gardens fill much of the town, with larger apartment buildings and industrial sites closer to the railway. Wide streets run in straight lines and meet at right angles, and the town ends abruptly where the steppe begins. Small lakes are scattered across the wider landscape, and roads lead away toward villages and farmland.
