Maner lies in Patna district, Bihar, on the plains near the confluence of the Son and the Ganges. It is one of the older towns of the region, and its map reflects this, with an irregular pattern of streets and lanes gathered around a historic centre.
Maner is known for its Sufi shrines, especially the dargah of Makhdoom Yahya Maneri and the monumental tomb known as the Badi Dargah, set beside a large water tank. It is also known for Maner laddu, a sweet associated with the town.
