Matoury is a commune in French Guiana, just south of Cayenne, and part of the capital's urban area. On the map, the commune looks like a mix of residential districts and tropical landscape, with neighbourhoods scattered between patches of forest, low wetlands and rivers. The built areas are joined by a few main roads rather than a continuous street grid.
Matoury is home to Cayenne – Félix Eboué Airport, French Guiana's main international airport. Its long runway is one of the most recognisable shapes on the map, a straight line cut through the green around it. Towards the east, the land reaches the estuary of the Mahury, where mangroves meet the Atlantic tide.
