Memāri is a town in Purba Bardhaman district of West Bengal, on the fertile plain between Kolkata and Bardhaman. It lies on the main railway line from Howrah, and the station and tracks run straight through the town, dividing it into two sides. From above, the streets form a dense, irregular pattern around the station and the main road, with farmland close at hand.
The surrounding district is one of the most productive rice-growing areas of Bengal, and the landscape around Memāri reflects that: a fine mosaic of paddy fields, ponds and small villages linked by narrow roads.
