Mendaha lies in Jambi province on the island of Sumatra, in the low, flat country shaped by the Batanghari River system. The region is one of wide rivers, wetlands and plantations, and settlements tend to follow the roads and waterways, stretching in long lines rather than forming compact, round centres.
On the map, the built-up area appears as a network of main roads with residential streets branching off them, surrounded by greener, less structured land. Water is never far away: streams, drainage channels and low-lying areas break up the pattern and give the edges of the town an irregular, organic outline.
A Mendaha map poster is a simple, faithful portrait of an ordinary Sumatran place.
