Mene de Mauroa is a town in the Mauroa municipality of Falcón state, in northwestern Venezuela, near the border with Zulia. Its name comes from mene, the local word for the natural petroleum seeps found in this region. The name ties the place directly to the oil activity that shaped its growth.
The town has a straightforward layout. A core of streets gathers along the main road, and the surrounding land is dry, open country crossed by tracks and service roads. From above, those tracks form a loose network that looks quite different from the tighter grid of the town itself.
