Meppen Map Poster & Print
Meppen is the district town of Emsland in Lower Saxony, near the Dutch border. It grew at the confluence of the Hase and the Ems, and water defines its map: the two rivers meet at the edge of the old town, and the Dortmund-Ems Canal runs alongside, adding a straight artificial line to the natural curves. The historic centre sits within this watery frame.
The town was once a fortress, and although most of the defences are gone, their outline is still suggested by the shape of the old centre and the green spaces around it. The market square with its town hall forms the heart of the old town, surrounded by a tight pattern of short streets that contrasts with the wide, open river landscape beyond.
Beyond the centre, residential districts spread across the flat Emsland countryside, with fields, woods and moorland not far away. A Meppen map poster shows a town shaped by rivers and canal, compact in its historic core and more open at its edges, with water lines running through every part of the composition.

Dortmund-Ems Canal
The shipping canal runs close to the Ems, drawing a straight, deliberate line against the natural meanders of the river and its old arms.
Old fortress town
The historic centre, once enclosed by fortifications, remains compact, with its market square and town hall at the heart of a tight street pattern.
