Michigan City Map Poster & Print
Michigan City occupies a short stretch of Indiana's small Lake Michigan shoreline. On the map the lake forms a vast blank field to the north, and the town's street grid runs up to it, interrupted by the harbour where Trail Creek meets the lake. Along the shore, Washington Park and the pier stretch out into the water, while to the west the coastline gives way to the dunes.
The town is known for its lighthouses, including the old lighthouse on the shore and the pierhead light at the end of the breakwater. It is also one of the few places in the United States where commuter trains, on the South Shore Line to Chicago, have long run down the middle of a city street, a detail visible on the map as a rail line inside the grid.
