Millville lies in Cumberland County in southern New Jersey, where the Maurice River runs south toward Delaware Bay. The city grew around the river and the glass industry that dominated it for generations, and it is also known as the Holly City of America. From above, its downtown is a regular grid of blocks stretching back from the riverbanks.
Just upstream, the river widens into Union Lake, one of the largest lakes in South Jersey, whose long, irregular shoreline gives the map a strong natural shape along the city's north-western edge. Around it, streets thin out into woods and fields, the forested landscape that stretches across much of this part of the state.
Millville's glass heritage lives on at WheatonArts, a centre for glass and craft, while the New Jersey Motorsports Park draws visitors from across the region.
