Mingcun lies in eastern Shandong province, in a region of low, fertile plains and gentle hills. From above it looks like a compact settlement laid out along a few main streets. Newer residential and commercial blocks stand beside an older core of low buildings. Rectangular fields surround it on all sides, divided by straight farm roads and channels.
English-language sources say little about Mingcun, so its map is the best description. It shows the pattern of a rural Chinese town that has grown over recent decades: a denser centre, wider arterial roads added more recently, and villages scattered across the farmland at regular intervals.
