Moïssala is the capital of the Mandoul province, in the far south of Chad, near the border with the Central African Republic. The area is well-watered by Chadian standards, with wooded savanna, farmland and rivers flowing toward the Chari basin. On a map, Moïssala is a sizeable but low-density town, where wide roads divide large residential blocks.
The centre has a clearer structure than many towns in the region. A few straight main roads meet near the administrative and market areas. Smaller lanes fill the blocks between them. Toward the edges, the pattern loosens into scattered compounds and fields. Seasonal waterways and lowland areas add irregular shapes that soften the outline of the town.
