Montbrison Map Poster & Print
Montbrison lies on the western edge of the Forez plain in the Loire department, where the flat land meets the Monts du Forez. It was the historic capital of the Forez counts, and its map still shows the rounded outline of the old walled town, now traced by a ring of boulevards around a knot of narrow medieval streets.
At the centre rises a small hill topped by a calvary, and the little river Vizézy runs through the town with its quays. The Gothic collegiate church of Notre-Dame-d'Espérance stands in the old centre, close to La Diana, a medieval hall known for its painted heraldic ceiling.
A Montbrison map poster sets that compact historic core against newer streets spreading out over the plain. The town also gives its name to Fourme de Montbrison, one of the traditional blue cheeses of the Forez mountains.
