Montrouge lies immediately south of Paris, separated from the capital by the boulevard périphérique, and on a map the boundary is unmistakable: the ring road draws a hard edge, and Montrouge's streets begin right on the other side. The commune is small in area, and almost all of it is built up, giving the map an unusually uniform density.
The main avenues run roughly north to south, continuing the radial lines of Paris toward the southern suburbs, while smaller streets knit the blocks together in an irregular pattern. The town hall, with its tall belfry, anchors the centre, and the Paris Métro reaches the commune at the Mairie de Montrouge station.
