Morsang-sur-Orge lies in Essonne, a little over twenty kilometres south of central Paris, on the plateau above the Orge river. Most of the town is residential. Its map is made of small streets lined with houses and gardens, with larger blocks of flats in a few areas and a mix of older lanes and planned post-war estates.
The Orge forms the town's natural edge and its most distinctive feature. The valley floor is kept largely green, with parkland and footpaths following the bends of the river, shared with neighbouring communes such as Viry-Châtillon and Savigny-sur-Orge. It gives the suburb a softer outline than its place in the Paris region might suggest.
