Msaken lies in the Sousse Governorate of Tunisia, a short distance inland from the Mediterranean coast and the city of Sousse. It belongs to the Sahel, the coastal plain of eastern Tunisia known for its olive cultivation. From above, the town forms a dense cluster of streets in a wide landscape of groves and fields.
The old centre is compact and irregular, with narrow lanes and closely packed houses. Newer neighbourhoods spread around it in more regular blocks, and main roads lead out towards Sousse, Kairouan and the neighbouring towns. Beyond the built-up area, rows of olive trees cover the gently rolling land, laid out in long, regular lines.
