Mulgund is a town in Gadag district, in the dry plateau country of northern Karnataka. On a map it appears as a tight cluster of streets surrounded by wide, open farmland. Country roads lead out towards neighbouring villages and the district town of Gadag.
The town has a long history as a religious centre. Old Hindu and Jain temples from the medieval period survive among its houses and are part of the wider temple heritage of the Gadag region. Around them, the older lanes are narrow and irregular, grown over centuries rather than planned.
