Mwingi is a town in Kitui County in eastern Kenya, in the semi-arid country east of Nairobi. It lies on the main road toward Garissa, and much of its layout grows from that route: a line of commercial plots along the highway, with residential areas and smaller roads branching away on either side.
From above, the town reads as a modest cluster of streets and plots set against wide, open land. Seasonal streams and dry riverbeds cross the surrounding country, and rural homesteads are scattered in the bush, connected by thin paths and murram tracks that fade into the landscape.
